Sometimes we give our muscle: We built a clubhouse for the Boy and Girl Scouts and sponsor the local troops. We helped build a basketball court for the Y Camp Knickerbocker, and have followed that up with an arts & crafts building and, most recently, an outdoor stage.
Sometimes what we give is recognition: Our decades-long Lifetime Achievement Award shines a deserving spotlight each year on a memorable senior of our community, and this award has been joined by Hometown Heroes and, just this year, our Veterans Appreciation night. We also invite the Boothbay Region High School graduates each year to a special evening to toast their achievements past and future.
We've been giving back to the Boothbay Region for a long time. The local YMCA was cofounded by a Rotarian back in the 1960s. So was the local AFS youth exchange chapter, as well as the Boothbay Region Student Aid Fund, which has grown into one of the largest scholarship programs in Maine. More recently, the local chapter of Rebuilding Together started off as a Rotary Club project, and many Rotarians still sit on its board.
