ROW NEW YORK wrote -
Row New York began in 2002 with the simple idea that competitive rowing paired with rigorous academic support for underserved youth could change the trajectory of their teen years and beyond. We have since taught thousands of young people the sport of rowing, and through it the values of tenacity, focus, teamwork, and confidence.
All fundraising efforts of our runners in the NYC Marathon will go towards strengthening our youth empowerment programs, which, by the numbers include:
- Seven years in a row of medaled performances at the New York State Championships.
-100 percent of seniors graduated from high school on time, compared to a citywide rate of 69 percent.
-Over the past 10 years, 96 percent of Row New York graduates who have matriculated to college graduated or are still enrolled. Institutions attended include Dartmouth College, the United States Naval Academy, Columbia University, Smith College, and a number of competitive SUNY and CUNY schools.
-Our students spend 28 hours in college readiness workshops—44 times the national average.
-100 percent of our middle and high school kids meet the physical activity level recommended by the CDC. In fact, our kids put in 750-1000 hours per year—double the CDC recommendation.
-College success, with more than 93% of Row New York's youth staying on track to earn their college degree, compared to a national average of 53%.
Empower our runners and in turn, empower our youth.
