I am inspired by the many dedicated people working diligently to welcome and support refugees in the United States right now, offering a positive antidote to hate and discrimination. I am seeking to raise funds for the International Institute of New England. In my city of Lowell, Massachusetts, the Institute offers essential services to newcomers, many of whom have fled terrifying and dangerous conditions to seek a safe haven in our country. On Sunday, February 12, 2017, I will be rowing 2,000 meters on an ergometer machine in front of a few thousand spectators at the Aggansis Arena in Boston. I am not an athlete, and I have never done something like this before. But if this fundraiser is successful, with every meter I row, the International Institute will receive at least one dollar. Helping refugees one stroke at a time . . . 2,000 meters, 2,000 dollars!
