Roxy's Road to Recovery
Organized by: Meghan Stone
Every $1.00 counts! 3 years ago my mother Tammy Stone passed away, she had 2 dogs Roxy and Sam that my grandma and I had to take in. Roxy has now been diagnosed with diabetic ketoacidosis. This condition occurs when there isn't enough insulin in the body. It can be triggered by infection or other illness. Symptoms include thirst, frequent urination, nausea, abdominal pain, weakness, fruity-scented breath, and confusion. Ketoacidosis is a serious diabetes complication where the body produces excess blood acids (ketones), which is causing her to have to stay in the hospital for multiple days, until the ketones are no longer detected in her urine. Hospital treatment to replace fluids and electrolytes and provide insulin therapy is required. Roxy has been being taken care of at Mundelein animal hospital, which is where I work. The ketones is treatable, but she will have diabetes for the rest of her life. Everyone at the hospital has been absolutely fantastic in helping me keep the bill as low as they can because they know that I am a college student working only part time and can't afford this treatment. They have donated equipment that I will need for roxy on an every day basis and have helped educate me on how to take care of this for the remainder of roxy's life. Roxy is a very close loved pet of our family that has been in the family since I was 11 years old. Please open your hearts and help my family through this financial trouble. Thank you and we appreciate whatever you can do to help.
