Stuttering is a communication disorder occurring in up to 5% of all school age youth often resulting in significant emotional & social consequences, including communication withdrawal, bullying, & shame. Young people who stutter can become great communicators exhibiting communicative confidence & competence when provided with adequate therapy services.
Camp Shout Out provides intensive speech therapy for young people who stutter during a traditional summer camp program. We Build Great Communicators, with special focus on helping children become more Attentive, Assertive, Confident, Effective, and Pro-Active. We help young people who stutter communicate for themselves, build confidence, and develop leadership skills, as they conquer fears such as ordering food, speaking in class, or saying their name to a new friend.
Camp Shout Out will build great communicators by providing training and treatment both directly and indirectly to approximately 200 young people who stutter each year.
Camp Shout Out is a model for the training of speech-language pathologists and graduate students as they seek to deepen their knowledge and understanding when working with young people who stutter.
Camp Shout Out Builds Great Communicators. Great Communicators Change the World.
