RSVP Inc. Animal Welfare and Rescue (originally known as Riverhead Shelter Volunteer Program and Responsible Solutions for Valued Pets) has been operating without a place to call its own since its origin in 1996. Since its humble beginnings, RSVP Inc. continues to make positive changes for animals in need in Eastern Suffolk County, Long Island, New York. RSVP Inc. would have the potential to increase its services described in its mission statement if it had office and storage space, dog kennels, catteries, exercise /training yards, a veterinary service room, an adoption/transition room and "classroom" space for training and educational purposes. RSVP Inc. has researched potential buildings conducive to providing the services needed by the animals in need, their families, and the general public . The building space would assist RSVP Inc.'s ongoing efforts to temporarily house animals who fall victim to abuse and neglect, provide medical care and spay/neuter services, provide training and transition services for animals awaiting adoption, house a food/supply pantry to assist families in need, promote fund raising and adoption events as well as educational programs including proper pet care, dog training, etc. RSVP Inc. volunteers would operate their new "home" with the same dedication and commitment they provide "out in the field" assisting animals and providing them with the life they deserve. This would not replace the ongoing commitment RSVP Inc. provides to the animals of Eastern Long Island but would rather enhance our already existing programs and allow us to expand our services to assist even more animals in need. The new "home" would have the potential to provide the resources RSVP Inc. has longed for since it pioneered its volunteer efforts in 1996.
RSVP Inc. has researched potential space conducive to carrying out the goals previously mentioned in our ongoing rescue and welfare efforts. Our group has accomplished a great deal in the past two decades and we are passionate in our goals to step up to the next level. At this time we have investigated several options of renting space from existing shelters, both municipal and private as well as from commercial kennel businesses. This fundraising opportunity would provide us the supplemental funds necessary to have a physical facility where we can expand our programs that we currently do "in the field". These programs include animal education and training, rehabilitation and sheltering of unwanted pets, and transitioning of chained/penned dogs from life outside to a life in a home. Our current outreach program covers an expansive geographic area wherein our volunteers assist animals in impoverished communities. Similarly, many of our foster care animals are dispersed throughout a large area encompassing several towns. A central location would allow our existing programs to be exceedingly more effective and would reach more animals. It will also provide a central location for owners to receive assistance with basic veterinary care, specifically spay/neuter, storage space for pet food/supplies, an adoption center, volunteer meeting site, office space, fundraising activities, and classroom space for community education on a variety of rescue and welfare topics. Our timeline plan for completion would encompass the scope of 3-6 months: The first month would require our volunteers to choose one of the potential places we previously researched to ascertain which one would serve our needs and comply with the our current short and long term goals. Once decided, RSVP Inc.would work to create an aesthetic environment that clearly reflects our mission statement and the spirit of our collective volunteer efforts to provide our animals with the life they so deserve. That being said, it is important that this same environment mimic a homelike one so that transition to a permanent home is smooth and fluid. We would continue to use our current providers for medical care, specifically spay/neuter. By month two, we intend to choose specific dogs and cats from our existing outreach programs whose owners have asked us to rehome in spite of our efforts to provide the means by which they could stay in their current home. These same animals would be part of a very aggressive adoption program including both community and media involvement. This would provide a framework for modeling future adoption protocols. By month three our educational training program would commence in order to provide both our adoptable animals a venue through which successful home placement and follow up services are possible. By this month's end we would open our pet food pantry to the public in need of assistance. Because this timeline appears to be ambitious, it is possible that our entire operation may require a 4- 6 month period. However our goal is to use these supplemental funds effectively in a timely manner. By the second half of our first year in our new "home", we would enhance our ongoing programs and host fundraising and community events in order to maintain our continual commitment to provide animals in need with loving homes.. We realize that some of outreach animals will require training, transitional services with possible foster care before being placed in permanent adopted homes. We are confident our supporters will realize the merit of our fundraising goal and continue to contribute from their hearts and share our mission far and wide. No amount is too small. We thank you in advance for your support and belief in our continued ongoing effort to create a better world for our beloved Long Island companion animals. We are most appreciative.
PLEASE NOTE: it is our intention to aggressively pursue the funds necessary for this "homelike shelter" to be operable beyond the use of this initial fundraising campaign. We thoroughly understand that it is the responsibility of RSVP Inc. to maintain our new home by budgeting accordingly to assure its operation into year two and beyond. We are committed to making this happen. This fundraising campaign will enable us to begin this process and provide for us the "jumpstart" we need in order to be successful. We are confident that RSVP Inc. has created a legacy of positive achievements in the area of animal rescue and welfare since 1996. Our experienced staff of volunteers is dedicated to continuing this legacy. Our reputation is exemplary. From the onset, we have been pioneers in challenging the status quo by reaching out to the most vulnerable communities, and have gradually changed the paradigm of what it means to provide our beloved animals with a chance to live their lives free of abuse and neglect. We are on the forefront of enhancing and providing the means to enforce our current laws in order make the future brighter for our animals. We pride ourselves in the knowledge that by doing so, positive permanent change is possible.
: RSVP Inc. currently provides our foster families with the necessary medical care, food, supplies and training for our animals to transition easily into a permanent home. When an animal is in need of placement and a foster family is not available, RSVP Inc. boards the animal until a placement is found. This often proves costly. These supplemental funds would offset some of these costs and provide the means by which RSVP Inc. can house such animals, thus saving the cost of kennel boarding and/or foster care.
