RUNNING WITH R2R TO WIN THE BATTLE AGAINST BLOOD/BONE MARROW CANCERS!
ALAN'S REASON FOR RUNNING
My brother, Bob, is my motivation to run the Marine Corps Marathon and raise funds for R2R.
Well over a year ago, Bob began to exhibit symptoms of severe fatigue. Medical tests showed significantly reduced blood cell counts, and he was eventually diagnosed with Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS), a disorder in which the bone marrow does not produce enough healthy blood cells. I don’t know whether Bob will ultimately require bone marrow transplant. If he does, and if I prove not to be a match, I want to ensure that another donor can be found for him.
R2R members support blood cancer patients and help raise awareness of the need for more people to join the national bone marrow donor registry. Given current rates of registration, and recognizing the complexities of identifying an appropriate match, the chances of finding a bone marrow or stem cell donor can be as little as 1%. My efforts will help raise critically needed funds to allow R2R to continue its mission: beat blood cancer!
Please join me in this important effort. Donations of any amount are sincerely appreciated. And please also consider joining the registry (email@example.com).
