Ruby's GSMDM Medical Mission 2016
Organized by: Ruby Nguyen
Hello family and friends,
In the last 5 years God have put into my heart a conviction to spread God’s salvation messages of Jesus Christ to the people of Vietnam through medical missionary trip. With the feeling of inadequacy, I was not be able to answer to this calling until now. This summer I will be going with Good Samaritan Medical and Dental Mission Team to Cao Bang, Vietnam.
Vietnam has always have special place in my heart because it was the country where I was born. I remember as a little child Vietnam to be busy and wondrous place where the streets are filled with strange and interesting smell. I remember being side by side with my mother as she practice dentistry at our home practice. My little responsibility is to comfort the patients from many scary dental procedures. Vietnam and dentistry was linked together in my heart. When I left Vietnam I promise myself that I would come back to Vietnam as medical missionary. When I enter college, I had blazing desire to become a dentist and a desire to glorify God through caring for sick and the loss. This mission trip is one major step in to accomplish this dream. After much prayer and consideration, I have choose GSMDM to be the vessel to accomplish this dream because they shared the same vision that a little 8 years old girl once had.
GSMDM is a nonprofit Christian organization started in 2000 with just 1 physician and four young adult volunteers members lead by Dr. Vien Doan. Our talented director and visionary, Dr. Doan has a vision to bring healing to war-stricken people of Vietnam in 1987. With patients and completely faith in God, he waited thirty years to make his dream a reality. In the the summer of 2000, the Good Samaritan Medical Ministry made their first trip back to Vietnam. One physician and four young adult volunteers treated 1,100 people in 10 days in the Mekong Delta on a meager budget of $12,000. Since then, Good Samaritan Medical Dental Ministry travels to Vietnam annually to provide free healthcare to the poorest regions of Vietnam. Many of the patients we serve have never seen a physician before in their life. Without our help, some will die. Each year, the team treats over 3,000 patients with conditions ranging from respiratory illnesses to children’s heart defects and cleft palates. Being one of the few organizations that has access to these remote regions of North Vietnam. Our present to crucial to the people of Cao Bang, Vietnam.
As part of the GSMDM team, my team and I will be fundraise for medical supplies and train for our specific tasks. We work side by side with physicians, surgeons, nurses, pharmacists, optometrists, dentists, and technicians to diagnose and care for patients. If we cannot provide a service, the patients are given money for treatment in Hanoi, Vietnam. I’m fortunate enough to be serving as part of GSMDM dental team. My role as to assist dentists to perform must needed procedures like extraction, root canal, and prevention of further tooth decay. Furthermore, GSMDM doctors also mentor local Vietnamese physicians in order to advance the health care education of Cao Bang. In addition, the Vietnamese physicians refine their English with our ESL team. In 2014, our construction team worked on refurbishing the sports stadium for the community. In 2015, we started a Children’s Ministry in which we provide a jacket, a pair of boots, and a backpack for 100 students who live in very cold areas with few warm clothing Cao Bang is small region in the Northern Vietnam.
I’m proud to be apart of such an revolutionary team. I believe that God has an amazing and glorious plan for every single team member on our team. As a medical missionary team, our main focus is to should show the people of Cao Bang, Vietnam God wondrous and unconditional love through our services. Like what Jesus had commanded in Luke 10: 37 after he have told the parable of Good Samaritan, we will go “do likewise”. This mission trip cannot be done without the support of my church community, I believe that I am going to Vietnam with my friends and family who have kept me in their prayer and sending me to do God’s will. I hope you will join me in this life changing journey. The contribution to crowdrise page will goes directly allowing my team to have place to stay as well as food for two weeks. The majority of the contribution will goes directly into purchasing and provide medical services and instrument for thousand of native in Cao Bang, Vietnam.
