68 Miles. 37 Pounds. No Stopping.
A wife. A mother. A sister. A friend.
On November 25th, our team of four guys will set out on a continuous RUCK of 68 miles, carrying 37 pounds, in order to combat breast cancer. We RUCK in honor of Polley Lawrence and Julie Lawrence Bellem who lost their lives at the ages of 68 and 37, just one year apart from each other, after strong and courageous fights against Breast Cancer. We RUCK so that in the future, our daughters have a better chance of surviving this disease.
We RUCK continuously, without stopping, because cancer patients do not have the option of stopping. We know that this will be hard. We know that it will hurt and we will suffer. But we stood by and watched the suffering that Julie and Polley went through, wishing that we could take it over or that we could fight the battle for them. We couldn't. And so our grief tells us that this is something that we must do.
Because we couldn't take their place. Or their suffering. Or their pain. And because we want better for our children and cancer patients of the future we have decided to say RUCK CANCER.
How Can You Help us RUCK Cancer?
Donate to the Breast Cancer Research Fund*, an organization that devotes all of its attention to researching a cure for breast cancer. Donate $37 for Julie's age or $68 for Polley's age, or any amount that you'd like. Help us fund research so that we know that breast cancer patients in the future will have a better chance of surviving. (BCRF is recognized as one of the most financially efficient nonprofits in the country. It has received an “A+” from CharityWatch and a 4-star rating from Charity Navigator.)
Lighten our Burden- we are seeking 15 "Burden Carriers" who will agree to raise/donate $100 and walk 1 mile with us, carrying the 37 lbs. We ask this in recognition of the way a community can lighten the burden of someone battling cancer. While you cannot fight the battle for them, a community of friends and loved ones can do things to lighten the load. We experienced this ourselves, through prayers, meals, cards, support, child care, etc. If you ever wished to lighten the burden of someone fighting cancer, this is your symbolic opportunity to carry the burden for one mile.
Support Crew: Be part of our support crew. Walk part of the journey with us or drive a support car. Email Jessica Lawrence if you are interested in helping this way. firstname.lastname@example.org
