The Marines, Sailors, and Midshipmen of the Auburn University NROTC will be conducting a 201.5 mile memorial ruck march from Auburn, AL to Navarre, FL. 100% of the proceeds from this event will go to The MARSOC Foundation with the purpose of supporting Gold Star families like those of the 7 fallen Marine Raiders of Marine Special Operation Team 8231.
From this band of fallen brothers there were five wives, two fiancées, and seven children were left heart broken. As I drove home today I thought of these men. I thought of their families. I realized just how fortunate I was to be heading home to spend time with my wife and three children. See I returned from Afghanistan with these men just months before that tragic day. That could have been me. That could have been any one of our fellow Marines. I would hope that if it were me, someone like SSgt Nathan Harris and the survivors of MSOT 8231 would be there for my family. I have been tremendously inspired by these men and the support that they have shown to the families of their fallen brothers, even through their own suffering. This is why we will ruck. This is why we will endure 230 miles of pain. We will humanize that tragic loss of true patriots and we will support the families left behind! Always faithful, always forward.
