BENEFITING: THOMAS JEFFERSON UNIVERSITY
EVENT DATE: May 21, 2016
In January 2010, Rudy was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Dr. Yeo from Jefferson confirmed he was a good candidate for the mini-Whipple procedure. At the age of 77, he underwent the eight-hour procedure. It was a long road to recovery. At the age of 84, he believes he is a lucky man and wants to do anything he can to help. The care at Jefferson was outstanding. It is important for people to know that for every 100 people diagnosed, only about 6 will survive after five years. Each year, we attend Jefferson's Annual Pancreatic Cancer Symposium and each year the crowd of survivors grow. We are participating in this walk to give HOPE to others. Did you know? • Pancreatic cancer is now the 3rd leading cause of cancer-related deaths • Has the highest mortality rate of all major cancers • Is the least-funded of all major cancers • Is expected to become the 2nd leading cause of cancer-related death by 2020
