Run 4 Emily!
July 18, 2017
BENEFITING: St. Paul Lutheran Church
Run 4 is a run/walk created to support individuals in need due to medical conditions, with an emphasis on helping those with communication needs. This year a third grade aged girl named Emily has been chosen to be the recipient of this fundraiser. She was born with profound developmental delays, including an inability to communicate via spoken or sign language as well as an inability to walk, crawl, roll over, feed herself, or even toilet herself. Emily has tried out several communication devices and has found one that she is able to use via eye-gaze. Her speech pathologist and general practitioner have attempted to bill insurance several times to purchase this device, but have been declined because it wasn't the "preferred device." This communication device would allow Emily to say, "I love you" to her mother and father for the first time. This device would allow Emily the ability to tell her brother and sister, "Knock it off" or, "That was awesome!" The funds from this fundraiser would not just allow a "device" to be purchased but would allow a wonderful little girl to finally have a voice.
