EVENT: Missoula Marathon 2017
EVENT DATE: Jul 09, 2017
I'm running all 50 states by the time I'm 60 years old (5 years from Sept) to raise awareness and funding for the International Perthes Study Group, a registered 501c-3 organization. https://www.perthesdisease.org/perthes-disease-donate Perthes disease is a bone disease that affects roughly 1 of 20,000 children ages +/- 5-12 years old. Children are restricted from physical activity and, many times, placed in very restrictive casts and braces as well as crutches and wheelchairs. There is no known cause for Perthes (death of the femoral head) and no known prevention or cure. My son was diagnosed just before 8yrs old and spent two years on crutches, 3 months in a restrictive A-brace, and finally had a femoral osteotomy which cut his femur in half to reposition it in his hip socket. He is now 23 years old and in his second year of medical school at Texas A&M Health Science Center, thanks to the wonderful care of his physicians as a child. Missoula will be my 6th state, and is my 3rd in 6 weeks!
