BENEFITING: Tom Coughlin Jay Fund Foundation Inc
EVENT DATE: Jul 18, 2016
Jay McGillis, age 22, died from leukemia 24 years ago this July. He was a son, brother, friend, and teammate to many and a big part of the Boston College Football family. In 1996, coach Tom Coughlin, started the Tom Coughlin Jay Fund in honor of his former player. This fund has disbursed over $6 million dollars to families with children battling with cancer offering emotional support to families as well.
July 18-20, I will be running the STYR Labs Badwater 135. I am using this run to reach out to friends, family, and former teammates to help raise money for the Tom Coughlin Jay Fund. Considered by many to be the world’s toughest footrace, this race starts in the Badwater Basin, the lowest point in the western hemisphere, through Death Valley, site of the hottest recorded temperature on Earth. The non-stop 135 mile course covers three mountain ranges for a total of 14,600 feet of total vertical ascent and 6,100 feet of total descent. The race ends on Mt. Whitney Portal, the trailhead to the highest mountain in the 48 contiguous states.
