BENEFITING: Heifer International
EVENT DATE: Mar 19, 2017
In 2000, I ran my first LA Marathon.
My mother Cate handed me two caffeinated Power-Gels at mile 19 that came in handy when I hit "the wall" at mile 21. She was so excited to see me running through her neighborhood on Hollwood Boulevard at Gower St.
Eight years ago today, September 22, 2008, she passed away from complications from surgery related colon cancer.
Her will stated that in-lieu of flowers she wanted donations to Heifer International.
Her favorite charity.
Heifer raises money to empower women with entrepreneurship, giving them an asset they can raise for food, which helps them raise stronger children and communities.
After a solid year of training, I decided to lace up my running shoes again and run the LA Marathon, in March 2017. I've already covered the registration fee, and I'll cover all Crowdrise campaign fees (only 3%), so 100% of all donations received will go to Heifer.
It's been about 10 years since I've run a marathon. I'm excited to start training, and looking forward to reflect on the memories of my mom during training runs.
If you choose to donate to this cause, I truly appreciate it. Many women and families will benefit from your donation. It's not just livestock that you give; you can give sustainable agriculture, drought resisstant farming techniques... you can be a part of something truly amazing.
Please be a part of this, for mothers, families, health, and Earth.
