Imagine living in an area where people from your community storm into your home to kill or torture your family, burn your house down, and either kidnap or displace you and your remaining family just because you were of a different family. Imagine having to flee for your life, and if you're lucky, end up in an over-crowded refugee camp in an unfamiliar place with hundreds of thousands of others in your same situation who are trying to survive with very little food or resources and almost no hope. The reality is that this is really happening to millions of people from South Sudan today. Since 2010, Father's House International has been involved in helping one child at a time to overcome life's circumstances to give them a family, the basic necessities of life, health care, education, and a future. Father’s House now has 40 children in its care in Africa! All of them are either in the care of our onsite manager in the FHI compound or in host homes in the Gambela area. One child we rescued, a 14 year old girl (Nyathijin Nyak Gash), now lives in the compound with the managers of Father’s House. She was being abused and was on the verge of being sold to an old man in the camp. She was badly malnourished, no parents and had nowhere to go. Today she is being nourished back to health, receiving needed medical attention, and will be starting back to school in the fall. Unfortunately, stories like this one are too common in the refugee camps. We are able to sustain this endeavor through a sponsorship program where people commit to pay $50 per month, per child and ALL (that's right, ALL) $50 goes directly to care for the child. In some circumstances, that money also helps to feed the entire family who cares for the child. We have purchased land so that we can continue the work to help as many children as we can by giving them practical life skills and placing them in loving families. This land reqires a security wall with a hefty price tag. We also have a team going in October to help follow up with our current families, find new families for more children, spend one-on-one time with each child to make sure their needs are met, provide clothing for the children, visit refugee camps, help with the construction and planning for FHI's expansion. This fundraising page will help offset the costs of construction, help with the expenses of the upcoming trip, and support the ongoing need and development of our future site to bring in more children. Sponsorship of children is also another critical need. Any help, great or small, is very much appreciated. Gifts may be tax-deductible. If you're giving to a specific person for the missions trip, please indicate that person's name in your memo. Father’s House International will make every effort to honor your request and apply your non-refundable donation to a specific team member. However, in compliance with IRS regulations on tax-deductibility, if needed, we may exercise discretion in apply these funds in other ways as appropriate.
