As a teacher for 11 years in Title 1 schools, I have always worked in the schools that needed me the most. For 99% of the students in these schools, the breakfast and lunch provided by the school are the only meals they receive in the day. BUT what happens when summer comes?
1 in every 4 children in the metro Atlanta area will go without food on any given day. 1 in 4. I've seen students wear the same outfit 3 days in a row because they couldn't afford to wash their clothes or come to school in wet clothing because they didn't have a dryer, and it was too cold for the clothes to dry. I've seen students cry because they didn't have electricity at home or the water bill didn't get paid. I've had students arrive at the time I would get to work at 6:45, so that they could come with me to stay warm and finish their homework. Some were homeless. I often kept donated snacks in my classroom to give to hungry students, even though I wasn't supposed to and got reprimanded on more than one occasion.
I've raised funds for Run10Feed10 for 3 years now, because they aim to change that, giving meals to OUR own metro area. When you donate to the Atlanta Run10Feed10, all meals will be sent to Atlanta and dispersed to various organizations that are located in communities that need it the most.
In October and November, I am running 12 and 24 hour races to raise funds for our Atlanta area. How can you help?
1) Donate any amount to show your support ($100= 33 meals, $50= 16 meals, $30 = 10 meals, $15 = 5 meals)
2) Join the team and help us raise funds for the children of Atlanta!
3) Share this fundraiser with family, friends, and coworkers!
