On October 6, 2006, I lost a dear friend and role model, Danny Burkett. Ever since, I've always wanted to do something to honor him and the scholarship fund that bears his name. Now that I've gotten into marathon-ing, what better time than now, in the city where we met?
About the scholarship:
The Daniel Burkett Memorial Scholarship was established in honor of Danny Burkett '06, who had an impact on many in a special way at the University of San Diego. The scholarship will be eligible to all active members of the Greek community who show academic excellence and are actively involved in community service. These criteria will help define the candidate who best exemplifies the spirit of Danny Burkett.
Danny was truly an amazing person to all who had the chance to know him. He was a passionate and fun-loving individual who was successful in so many aspects of life. Danny graduated Summa Cum Laude with a degree in Business Economics and in 2006 received the award of Academic Excellence in Business Economics. While at USD he was a member of the prestigious Alcala Club, Omicron Delta Epsilon International Economics Honor Society, National Society of Collegiate Scholars, and Delta Tau Delta International Fraternity. His magnetic personality allowed him to touch the lives of many people, and he will no doubt be a tremendous source of inspiration for all who knew him.
Danny gave so much of his time and energy to USD and the Greek Community while he was here. Your support will help keep his light shining within the USD community, and perpetuate his legacy of hard work, community involvement, and academic success.
