BENEFITING: GRACEHAVEN HOME INC
ORGANIZER: GRACEHAVEN HOME INC
EVENT DATE: Oct 16, 2011
Dear Friends and Family,
As many of you know, I'm training for my first marathon. In addition to training for the race, I've decided to raise money with Run for Gracehaven. Run for Gracehaven is a team of people running the Columbus Full or Half Marathon on Sunday, October 16, 2011 to raise awareness about human trafficking and raise financial support for Gracehaven House. I'll tell you a little about Gracehaven, their mission, and why I think it's important. In the last paragraph, I'll let you know how to give money if you are willing and able.
I've discovered this year that human trafficking is not reserved to distant countries, but happens right here in Ohio. About 100,000 American children are involved in Commercial Sexual Exploitation, with the average beginning age of prostitutes being 12-14 years. A little closer to home, Toledo is ranked 4th nationally for investigations, arrests, and rescues of children forced into prostitution and is considered one of the top recruiting cities in the US by the FBI. This is a very real problem and can leave lasting scars, both physical and mental, on victims. I had no idea something like this even existed in the US, much less in nearby Toledo where I've often traveled for my job.
There are approximately 120 beds in the US specializing in the care of sexually exploited minors. Gracehaven House will add 10 more beds to that total and will be the only shelter in Ohio focusing on domestic minor sex trafficking (DMST). Right now, the closest facility is located in Chicago. Gracehaven is a faith-based organization whose mission is to provide shelter and rehabilitation to girls under 18 years old who have been victims of domestic minor sex trafficking; to raise awareness and work toward prevention of DMST. Gracehaven House believes that the most complete form of rehabilitation for victims of prostitution must include spiritual rehabilitation in addition to emotional, physical, social, and educational rehabilitation. However, prior to receiving licensure to operate as a group home in Ohio, Gracehaven House must prove financial stability by raising 6 months of full operating expenses, equivalent to $500,000.
First, I ask you to keep Gracehaven House in your prayers and thoughts. Second, if you are willing and able, please consider contributing to the cause. You can donate online at http://www.crowdrise.com/run4gracehaven/fundraiser/PaulWissmann or use the enclosed response card. Make Checks payable to Gracehaven House. You can send donations to PO Box 541, Dublin, Ohio 43017 or to me at 183 Westwood Rd, Columbus, OH 43214 and I will take the money to Gracehaven. I know the race is coming up soon, but my goal is to raise $1000 by October 31. I'm sure donations will be accepted after that date, but it's a target date to shoot for.
Thanks for your support and God bless!

About Gracehaven House
Gracehaven is a faith-based non-profit organization started in 2008 for the expressed purpose of providing shelter, security, and rehabilitation to girls under the age of 18 who are victims of commercial sexual exploitation in central Ohio.
Gracehaven is a long-term rehabilitation facility allowing girls to stay as needed until they reach the age of 18. We will then help them transition to the next step in their life. While at Gracehaven, the girls will be able to earn their GED, as well as receive counseling and treatment for the horrible trauma and exploitation they have been forced to endure.
Gracehaven is in the process of purchasing a house situated on 10 acres in an undisclosed location in NW Ohio. Once renovated, the house will be large enough to hold up to 10 girls at a time.
Gracehaven seeks through Christian love to provide shelter and rehabilitation to girls under the age of 18 who have been victims of commercial sexual exploitation, and to raise awareness among young women about the issue of domestic minor sex trafficking (DMST) in order to educate and equip them so that they can avoid becoming victims themselves.
