THE STORY:

RAD CAMP INC wrote -

We are Run4RAD, a running group formed because of and in support for RAD Camp! RAD Camp is a nonprofit run entirely by awesome volunteers that provide summer camps for adults and children with developmental disabilities. Our Run4RAD group is comprised of RAD Camp volunteers, campers, family, friends, friends of friends and beyond. We think there is no better way to represent our spirit and mission of Rising Above Disabilities, than by coming together to run for an amazing cause. Our running inspiration comes from the belief that our abilities outweigh our disabilities. Join the Run4RAD movement as a runner, motivator and/or donor! Any way you join you will be helping to continue our awesome programs and events for our campers and spreading the RAD philosophy to others. Become a part of Run4RAD and join us for different running events, dedicate your morning jog to our camp family, or come be a part of the RAD Roundup, our friends who are there to motivate and cheer us on! To learn more about RAD Camp, visit www.radcamp.org. Check out our Run4RAD Facebook group to keep up with race and training info at https://www.facebook.com/groups/Run4RAD/. To order a Run4RAD shirt, visit https://www.booster.com/run4rad2015 and place an order by September 23, 2015 by 11:59pm. And lastly, remember to share all your RAD moments with ‪#‎Run4RAD‬ on Instagram!

We are currently training for the Chapman 5k on October 3, 2015 and the Long Beach Half Marathon on October 11, 2015! Below are our friends who are currently training for the Long Beach Half Marathon. Take a look at why they are inspired to Run4RAD:

"Over the last year running has helped to change my outlook on life, and over the past seven years camp has done the exact same thing. Volunteering at RAD Camp has had such a deep impact on the person I am today, especially by having helped me learn to love and accept others and myself! I run for all of the happiness at camp, both from what the volunteers offer their buddies and even more so from what the buddies, often unknowingly, give to the volunteers." -Kelsey Pulver

"I used to not like running very much and I was the slowest runner out of all the kids in school. Today, I am a very different person now that running is part of my life. My life has also changed because of many influential people in my life. Especially the people I know from RAD Camp! At camp, we are encouraged to let our abilities shine despite whatever disabilities we may have! One of my many motivations for running is RAD Camp. Camp reminds me that that I can achieve anything if I try my hardest! My Abilities Outweigh My Disabilities!" -John Viet Triet Nguyen

"I run for RAD because I believe in what we stand for so fiercely. RAD Camp and running have both changed my life for the better. What an awesome opportunity this is to give back to an organization I love by doing something I love! I hope the #Run4RAD movement inspires others to rise above their everyday challenges and obstacles and to realize that life is truly limitless." -Marian Quiroz

"Once Upon a Camp... my story began back in 2005 where I volunteered at one of the RADdest places called RAD Camp. In my week at camp I found so much meaning and purpose to life, with a burning passion to help people no matter their disAbility. My reason to run the Long Beach Half-Marathon is to allow Jay to experience my passion and to help our cause: RAD Camp. We would love that if by the unfolding of our powers we can continue to allow buddies, counselors, staff, directors and everyone involved to have a magical place to call their HOME. Please help support our cause, Rising Above disAbilities!" -Ernie Rangel

"My first buddy at RAD Camp taught me more than I ever could have imagined. She taught me to overcome life's obstacles, to persevere even when it seems impossible, and to never let the hard moments keep you down. I enjoy running for these reasons. I am running for RAD to give back to this amazing organization we all call home." -Meghan Kelly

"I run not to win, but to do my best and that's exactly what camp is about. It's not to compare or compete, but to celebrate our best. I'm blessed to be a part of something so special. Camp is a beautiful place filled with love and acceptance. I am so excited to Run4RAD alongside my favorite people who I am lucky enough to call family." -Carly Laines

"I'm running for RAD to be a part of a great event, running alongside even greater people." -Connor Laines

"In May, I attended the OC Marathon to watch my two friends run, well, one ran while he was pushing Jay in his wheelchair! I was so overwhelmed by all the love and support!! When I was approached to participate in the Long Beach half marathon, I said YES! And it will also benefit RAD Camp with your donations. RAD Camp is the place I love to be, where friendships are made to last a lifetime!!" -Christine Horn

“RAD Camp has my heart.  It is hard to explain how much my camp friends have changed my life in every way.  We are all brothers and sisters and we love our lives together.  Camp is only one week during the year, but the fun and friendships are forever.” -Jay Hallett
