Meet Roman! He is my IR4 buddy (who I run for). IR4 is an organization that pairs runners with a buddy. A runner will dedicate their miles to their buddy while at the same time building a relationship with them. Everyone knows how much I love running, so I wanted to find ways where I can use running to help make a difference. That is when I found IR4. On January 20th, I was matched with Roman!

I want to share his story as we approach CHD Awareness week from Feb 7-Feb 14. This cute little guy was born at 35 weeks on 6-23-15, weighing just 3 pounds, and was in the NICU for 2 weeks. At 7 weeks he had a heart attack at home, turned blue, and was diagnosed with a rare congenital heart defect called ALCAPA. He had open heart surgery the next morning, and was in the PICU for 6 weeks. I'm running for this little guy (‪#‎Run4Roman‬) and at the same time want to bring more awareness to CHD. Statistics say that about 1 in every 110 babies will be born with a congenital heart defect (CHD), making it the most common birth defect in the USA. They say 25% of them will need heart surgery or other interventions to survive.

I'll be running the Roar N' Run Virtual Charity Race on Feb 7th and would like to help raise money for the cause. The funds raised will support Mended Little Hearts. This organization relies on the support of individuals, corporations, and foundations to help them provide hope and support to thousands of children like Roman with congenital heart defects and their families and caregivers. They offer several programs and services in helping local families such as group meetings, accredited visiting, CHD awareness initiatives, health education to communities, ongoing communication, and advocacy.

Please help support Roman! It is my hope to help make a difference for Roman as well as other children with CHD.
