BENEFITING: SANDY HOOK PROMISE FOUNDATION
EVENT DATE: Nov 02, 2014
In 2011, I successfully completed the NYC Marathon. It was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. I decided to challenge myself to the race again this year, on November 2, 2014. As a second time marathoner, I have chosen to make my race even more meaningful and try to raise awareness and support for the organization, Sandy Hook Promise. Moving back to the community this year has been the best choice my husband and I have made. The community is entirely welcoming and its strength has been empowering. I would love to give back any way that I can.
The Sandy Hook Promise was created as a result of the 12/14/12 school shooting tragedy, as a promise to parent together to prevent gun violence in our communities. Sandy Hook Promise has set up a non-profit organization called the Sandy Hook Promise Foundation.
The Sandy Hook Promise Foundation has a mission to prevent the causes of gun violence by educating and empowering parents in their communities. Focused in the areas of mental wellness, community connectedness and gun safety, programs are created to implement in communities today as well as support for policy actions at state and federal levels. The foundation has also set up a community fund to provide immediate and long-term financial, in-kind and other aid to community members impacted by this tragedy.
Your donation will go directly to the foundation and is very much appreciated!
