BENEFITING: Living Water International
EVENT DATE: Mar 11, 2012
Every day more than 4,000 children die of water-and sanitation-related diseases. We can help make a difference and save lives. Together we can demonstrate the love of God by helping communities acquire desperately needed clean water, and experience "living water"--the gospel of Jesus Christ--which alone satisfies the deepest thirst.
We are raising money for Living Waters International. Since their founding 21 years ago LWI has completed more than 10,000 water projects (and counting!) for communities in 26 countries. You can view their page (http://www.water.cc/) for more information. Following are some stats:
• 443 million school days are lost each year due to water-related diseases. (UNDP)
• 11% more girls attend school when sanitation is available. (DFID)
• 40 billion working hours are spent carrying water each year in Africa. (Cosgrove and Rijsberman 1998)
• Households in rural Africa spend an average of 26% of their time fetching water, and it is generally women who are burdened with the task. (DFID)
