BENEFITING: The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society
EVENT DATE: Jun 07, 2013
A couple of months ago, I was reading the upcoming race section in Runner’s World magazine and came across a write-up for the Bear Lake Utah Marathon. As I read the article, I noticed a mention for a second marathon in Idaho to complete the 50 mile loop around Bear Lake. The Lake is north of Salt Lake City and straddles the border of the two states.
At the time I read the article, I was looking for a crazy way to push my endurance and to bring attention to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) mission to cure blood cancers and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.
With caution scattered to the wind, I embarked on what I am calling my Fifty for Fifty. Fifty for fifty refers to two full marathons on back to back days for a total of 52.4 miles (50 plus 2.4 miles), and the celebration of my 50th birthday the following day.
The stresses that I will cause my body are nothing compared to what thousands of cancer patients experience every day. I saw it during my son Jason’s treatment, I see it with so many other patients and survivors that cross my path each and every day, and most recently I am seeing it as my mother in law battles Lymphoma for the second time. These are the heroes!
Please join me in supporting LLS with their mission to “cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families”. Any costs incurred for travel and race expenses are my costs. No money from your donation will go towards non-mission related expenses.
Every day, we are getting closer to a cure. With your help and generosity, that someday could be today.
