EVENT: San Francisco Marathon 2014
EVENT DATE: Jul 27, 2014
Public schools are operating in a challenging environment at best these days. A school can be great if it has the right teachers and administrators. But to give a school a fighting chance with the budgets they have (or lack thereof) parents need to pitch in and do their part too.
A great school, in my opinion, is Crocker Highlands Elementary in Oakland. Tracy and I are lucky to be able to send our son Owen to Crocker but we both know that even though it's public school, it's not free. So in addition to the donations we make during the year to the school I’ve decided to try and raise more money for Crocker by participating in the 52.4 mile “Worth the Hurt” race on July 27th, 2014.
If you’ve never heard of this I get it – not many people do this race (17 finished last year). The way it works is that at midnight on July 26th I will line up with some other crazy people at the finish line of the SF Marathon. I will then run the 26.2 mile marathon loop course twice: in the opposite direction for the first loop and then run with the official San Francisco full marathon for the second loop. I’ve done a 50 mile run before (last November) and finished in 10 hours, 20 minutes – hopefully I’ll finish a little faster this time.
I have never raised money for any of my races but I am hoping you will help me raise the $1000 (or more) I need to be able to participate in this race. Every cent raised will be donated to Crocker Highlands Elementary School. Please donate what you can – a buck a mile; $25 per marathon or any flat amount you feel is best will be appreciated and used. Everything given will directly help not just Owen but the hundreds of kids at his school. Thanks in advance for your support!
