Thank you to those of you who supported our team with donations and to everyone who slipped into a dress and laced up their running shoes to help raise awareness about trafficking. You helped make the second annual Runaway Bridesmaids race (and first-ever in Hoboken!) so much fun--and such a success.
Because of your help, we have raised more than $7600 so far this year (or more than $18,000 in the two years that we’ve done the event!) to support the New Light shelter for the kids of sex workers in one of India's biggest red light districts to help break the cycle of human trafficking.
A big shout out to Ms. Emily Lambert for raising $1000 on Crowdrise. She wins an Airline Ambassadors Mission Trip to visit one of their projects in Guatemala, Colombia or Haiti...her choice, flight included.
We can’t wait for the fun to begin again next year: The 2015 Runaway Bridesmaids 1-mile fun run will be even bigger, and a team of five of us are going on to run 26.2 miles in DRESSES for the NYC Marathon to help raise funds and awareness for the cause. You can find updates here on crowdrise, on our Facebook page (facebook.com/runawaybridesmaidsrace), and twitter feed (@runbridesmaids).

Why You Should Care
Human trafficking is happening not only on the other side of the world, but also in our hometowns. If you need proof that sex trafficking is a local issue, then just look at the 2014 Super Bowl held in East Rutherford, New Jersey. FBI agents rescued 16 children during the sporting event who were victims of sex trafficking.
The problem is huge: Human trafficking is the fast-growing organized crime business, reaping $32 billion a year, according to The International Labor Organization. That’s why we’re asking you to pledge just $32 to help support Runaway Bridesmaids and combat human trafficking.
By supporting Runaway Bridesmaids and donating at least $32, you are fighting human trafficking by helping to educate travel workers to catch a criminal, as well as shelter a vulnerable child from joining the sex trade. That’s because Runaway Bridesmaids will benefit two life-changing organizations: PROCEEDS FROM RACE REGISTRATION go to Airline Ambassadors International to sponsor an anti-trafficking training program at Newark airport, a major hub of sex trafficking.
MONEY RAISED HERE ON Crowdrise will help break the cycle of sex trafficking by supporting Village Volunteers’ partner New Light, a shelter for the kids of sex workers and as well as a home for victims of trafficking in India’s biggest red light district. New Light is changing lives!
The Runaway Bridesmaids Story
We believe in the power of friendship and community and of a group of people coming together to make a positive change in the world. We believe that slavery should not exist ever—and especially not in this century. We believe that, with the help of a few caring people like you, we can fight human trafficking.
We also believe in moving our bodies, having fun, and in proving our bride friends right who swore we could wear those bridesmaids dresses again by recycling them for a good cause, lacing up our sneakers, and racing to make a positive difference in the lives of other women and girls. That’s why we’re doing the second annual Runaway Bridesmaids run, where we’ll recycle those bridesmaids dresses that are all about celebrating friendship and love to run in them to raise awareness and funds to help fight human trafficking.
