THE STORY:

"I often hear someone say, 'I'm not a real runner.' We are ALL runners some just run faster than others. I have never met a fake runner." (Bart Yasso). I am a runner while not the fastest, most talented, or experienced - I am Jodie Gregory a paramedic by trade but by heart and soul I am a runner and I run for a reason:

Six thousand seven hundred and sixty. 6,760 no matter how you write it, it's too many. According to the US Central Command (http://projects.militarytimes.com/valor) 6,760 is the total number of fallen soldiers involved in Enduring Freedom, Operation Iraqi Freedom, and Operation New Dawn. Of that 6,760 - 47 are reported from Maine, 39 from New Hampshire, 24 from Vermont, and 121 from Massachusetts. These soldiers lost their lives fighting for the freedoms we hold to be self evident.

This year, I will run the 2014 Boston Marathon, in honor of Captain Benjamin D. Keating, 27, of Shapleigh, Maine, a 2004 UNH graduate (Magna Cum Laude & Phi Beta Cappa), who went on to serve our country in the US Army. He died Nov. 26, 2006, while serving as executive officer of A Troop, 3-71 Cavalry, Task Force Spartan, 10th Mountain Division in Kamdesh, Afghanistan - fighting for our freedom.

This event will present some of the best, challenging and memorable steps I will undertake. To be successful and fulfill my commitment to Captain Keating, his family, Run for the Fallen, and the Boston Athletic Association I need your help.

Together with your support we will continue to stand Boston Strong.

~Jodie
