What is ScriptEd.org?
ScriptEd.org provides its tuition-free coding program directly to public schools, where classes are taught by professional software developers on a volunteer basis to students in under-resourced public schools. Then, ScriptEd students apply their new coding skills in paid summer internships working alongside role models in the field while gaining the experience and confidence necessary to pursue careers in technology.
I run for Jocelyn, a ScriptEd 12th grader in East Harlem who says, "Learning to code has made me a better problem-solver... Being a girl who knows how to code is something that I’m proud of telling others."
I run for the San Francisco ScriptEd class with 17 Latina students who successfully completed the first year coding curriculum. Born and raised in San Francisco, a coding mecca, none of the students experienced a coding class before ScriptEd arrived to their school in 2017.
I run for the ScriptEd students in Oakland starting Fall of 2017, who will experience a ScriptEd class for the first time.
I run for the generous professional software developers who volunteer to teach their craft to ScriptEd students in New York City, San Francisco, and Oakland. In NYC alone, they donated 25,000 hours of their time during the 2016 - 2017 school year.
I run for the committed ScriptEd staff who coordinate, innovate, and hustle to grow ScriptEd and deliver the experience to students, volunteers, and generous partners.
Given the challenge faced by the students, volunteers, and staff, I am running the San Francisco Half Marathon on July 23rd - my first half marathon.
