My name is Darren Schutt and I have come to know the New York State Apple Growers Association through my dad Martin Schutt. My family owns/operates Schutt's Cider Mill a country store and apple farm in Webster, New York. Thanks to what the farm and store have provided me I have been fortunate enough to get a college degree and I’m currently a physician assistant (PA) at Rochester General Hospital.
As a PA in a hospital setting I have watch and been involved with patients and family facing end of life issues. The hospice principals of giving control, dignity, comfort, and providing the best quality of life to patients with terminal illnesses has helped many patients I have care for. Not only does the hospice philosophy helped those that are dying but it also takes into account the needs and feelings of the patients’ love ones. Hospice helps family and friends deal with the grieve they endure while watching someone they love pass. Having witness the hospice philosophy make such a positive difference in so many peoples’ lives has made me choose to run for this cause.
This November I will be running the New York City Marathon to raise money for the Webster Comfort Care Home. The home is located in my home town of Webster, NY and allows the terminally ill to live in a home atmosphere that embraces the hospice principals. Please join me in helping support this worthy cause.
