BENEFITING: CHICAGO METROPOLITAN BATTERED WOMENS NETWORK
ORGANIZER: CHICAGO METROPOLITAN BATTERED WOMENS NETWORK
EVENT: 2015 Chicago Marathon
I recently moved from NYC to a town outside of Chicago to attend school. I want to celebrate this big change by running my first marathon!
I will run the Chicago Marathon this October while supporting the "Run Domestic Violence Out of Town" campaign. All money raised will be donated directly towards supportive services for domestic violence survivors and prevention efforts.
I chose this organization because domestic violence is often overlooked despite its prevalence. 25% of women and 14% of men will experience domestic violence in their lifetimes. As a Domestic Violence and Rape Crisis Advocate for a hospital in lower Manhattan I saw the effects of domestic violence first hand. I've seen how treatment and access to information can empower patients and strongly impact their life outside of the hospital visit.
I need your help. I’m asking for you to use the money you may have otherwise spent on coffee or grabbing lunch to make a tax-deductible donation to help me reach my goal. Every little bit helps! I will mail a special thank you note to everyone who helps support these important service providers.
I have my bachelor’s degree in psychology from NYU and I am currently attending Loyola University of Chicago to obtain my RN. After graduation I plan to become certified as a sexual assault forensic examiner (SAFE) so I can use my experience as a victim advocate to meet patients’ emotional needs while also taking care of their physical health and well-being.
I have previously run the Brooklyn Half and NYC Half and I loved both races. I was nervous to sign up for a full marathon but my friends told me to go for it!
