ORGANIZER: CHICAGO METROPOLITAN BATTERED WOMENS NETWORK
EVENT: 2015 Chicago Marathon
Hello! Thank you so much for taking the time to visit my fundraising page.
For those that don't know me, my name is Michelle Bates and I reside in Tulsa, OK and I started running almost 4 years because I decided it would be good to take up in my late 30's. LOL. It didn't start well and I didn't discover I was a natural but I did discover my love for running. The peace I get when I run and the constant challenge it provides me, not to mention the amazing people I have met along the way. I have also been a Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault advocate for the past 6 years, after completing an internship with a local DV program. I can't believe it's been 6 years!
Running the Chicago marathon (my first official marathon btw) has been a dream for the past couple of years. One, it's Chicago! My parents moved to the Chicago area about 5 years ago and I fell in love with the city. I even completed my Masters in Children's Law & Policy from Loyola Law Chicago last year. Second, I found a great opportunity to support an issue that is near and dear to my heart, Domestic Violence. Below you will find more information about Run Domestic Violence Out of Town and the Coalition of 8 awesome organizations fighting this issue in Chicago. I am honored to be apart of helping them and blessed to have the ability to run such a great marathon.
This is where all of you come in...I can't do this alone. Everything you all donate helps me get even closer to my goal. The expected goal is $1500 but I like to do things big so let's go for $3000! Any amount is appreciated and sharing my page after you donate is super appreciated.
If you own a business and want to donate from your business that is super! Let me know and I will get your logo/name on my running outfit on race day and promote the heck out of you on social media. And don't forget about company matching programs that many companies have started implementing (love this)!
Thank you so much for taking the time to read about me and my goals for this campaign and don't forget to check out the information below!

Eleven very different domestic violence service providers from across the city have come together to advance their cause via the October 2015 Bank of America Chicago Marathon. All revenue generated by the Run DV Out of Town team, will be used by its member agencies for domestic violence prevention and supportive services for its survivors.
The Coalition is an unprecedented collaboration representing diverse populations across Chicago. Its member agencies are located in neighborhoods throughout the city and suburbs and serve communities representing all races, ethnicities, and religions. As Coalition member Ava Newbart, Director of Development at Shalva, states, “domestic violence doesn’t discriminate: it’s an equal-opportunity destroyer of families throughout Chicago. It doesn’t matter if you’re Hispanic, Asian, Jewish, or Arabic, or whether you are rich or poor. We embrace our diversity and stand together because nobody should be afraid in their own home. Domestic violence is NOT OK.”
