ORGANIZER: ORGANIZATION FOR AUTISM RESEARCH
EVENT DATE: May 05, 2013
Hello! My name is Bethany Black, and on Sunday May 5th, 2013 I will be running the Pittsburgh Half Marathon for my second consecutive year. This will also be my second year using the race to raise money for The Organization for Autism Research. O. A. R. is an organization that funds research directed at improving the lives of those living with autism. My passion for advocating for autistic individuals stems from the deep affection that I have for my seven-year-old cousin Zachary who was diagnosed with autism when he was merely a toddler. Zachary is an exceptionally caring, beautiful, and brilliant soul. I admire, and am inspired by his unique approach to life. He crosses my mind almost every morning while I am frantically scurrying about, fretting over the list of things that I hope to accomplish. It is then that I am reminded of how on average, Zachary's primary concern when he wakes up is something such as "How many things can I find in my house today that start with the letter 'J'?" This then prompts me to assess how much energy I waste by simply worrying. What would the world be like if we all lived as freely as Zachary?
However, in many ways, autism is both a blessing and a curse. Autism is a disease which affects every area of an individual's life, and makes even simple task--such as eating meals--complex. Autism also creates immense struggles for the families of the autistic individual. This is what fuels my desire to support research that will potentially make life easier for those affected by autism. I would love for you to join me in my quest by making a donation to my fundraising campaign. Honestly, whether it be $1 or $1000, it all equally counts as a contribution to bettering the lives of those who are affected by autism. Thank you for taking the time to read this and may God bless you.
