My dearest Eric,
When you were young, I could do everything for you to keep you growing and moving forward. Whatever was asked or needed, you got (liking it or not)-new therapies, interventions, goals. As you grow, the gap widens and there is far less I can do. That is so difficult. As a mother, to see you slowly start to separate from the pack. Now the steering wheel is in your hands. You get to forge your own path. And for a lot of it, I stand by, encouraging, cheering and hoping to hell things turn out.
Everyday, you inspire me. You drive me mad. You challenge me at every turn. But you turn up the volume on my life and awareness.
My dear boy, I don't like to run. But if I have a reason, a purpose to go out when I don't want to and so something I'm not fond of, well, it gives it meaning. And if I can do it with your name on my lips everytime my foot hits the ground, then it will be worth every step.
My dear Eric, you give me meaning.
