THE STORY:

There are many reason why I have decided to run the NYC half marathon on March 20th this year. I run to challenge myself, to stay in shape, to prove that I can. This year though, I'm also running for Bubby. The word 'Bubby' by definition means Grandmother in Yiddish but to me the word stands for the women who loves her family unconditionally; a woman who worked when most women were staying home, raised a family, cared for an ill husband and is the process of recovering from a hip replacement. It is this woman helping to inspire me and I am therefore asking for your help in raising money to help finance the senior club my Bubby herself has said helped save her life. .

In the years after her husband's death, my Bubby Eva joined the Sr Canteer of Westerchester Jewish program, http://www.wjcs.com/index.php?src=gendocs&ref=SeniorProgramsinMtVernon&category=Jewish Community, in looking for ways to get out of the house and found so much more. Going to these programs 2/3 times a week gives my grandmother something to look forward to, think about and get out of bed and excited for. They discuss and argue politics, put on plays, watch old films and speak their parents tongue of yiddish to keep their minds working.

While she might not believe it, I know that my she is a very strong woman. And since my family has long told me I carry some of her stubbornness in me, I am hoping to turn that stubbornness into the strength and fight I see in her to help me run 13.2 miles. My Goals are two fold this year - to beat my time from last spring of 2 hrs 21 minutes and to raise $1000 in the next 7 weeks to help ensure this club stays fully functional with all the trips, groups and meals they currently offer.
