Here is the IMANI URL.

Just as I did last year, I will be running in Baltimore City Marathon on October 13, 2012 to raise money for IMANI Kenya Community Development Inc. Imani Community Development offer financial assistance to the most needy children in Kenya so that they may go to school.

Imani is a Swahili word for “Faith”. Faith - the belief in things unseen, the unyielding confidence in the possibilities. The belief in the fact that with God no frontier is too removed, no earthly goal beyond grasp, no mountain too high to climb, no valley too deep to ascend, no situation too hard to thaw, no community challenge too difficult to overcome, no world too disrepaired to fix. The belief that the “better times” for long spoken about can actually arrive for all those who are in great need, that all communities can really actualize their aspirations and dreams, that the world can indeed be a better and happier place.

Imani Community Dev. Inc. is, in many ways, a product of the Founders' love and care for their beloved communities and motherland – and the offering of their lives to be used for a purpose beyond their singular pursuits. Always thinking and praying for the educational, health and other generational needs and problems facing the people of Kenya, the founders heard and heeded to God’s intent voice, that they be active vessels in the search for solutions.

While Kenya is a country uniquely blessed in many ways, the sad reality is that much is still needed today. Educational and healthcare needs are enormous and vast. Many children still learn in temporary and overcrowded classrooms and do not have enough resources for effective learning. Many still drop out of school due to lack of school fees. Health Centers are too few and mostly too ill-equipped to handle all the health needs that present. With no ambulances, no sufficient medication, no diagnostic, admission, and maternity capacity, many lives are continually lost at the door-steps of these clinics, lives that might otherwise have been saved. Clean drinking water is still a problem for many, hence the perennial problem of waterborne diseases or the scarcity of water. And although Kenya teems with athletic talent, there are limited programs to nurture and support young and upcoming athletes.

Of particular concern to this organization is the large number of children orphaned by the HIV/AIDS epidemic. Kenya has too many orphans and needy children struggling to earn their education. Assailed by the lack of the very basic of needs and compounded by the absence of parental love and care, many barely trudge through their years of innocence, surviving each day, sadly to drop out of school for lack of school fees - and consequently out of this one vital vehicle to a future of better promise.

Imani hopes to help Communities in Kenya in the development of Education, Healthcare, and Sports - the last two as a means for promoting social coherence, the advancement of health and educational agenda and for the development of talents for career sportsmanship and educational opportunities.

Education is in Kenya a great determinant of a child’s, and subsequently, a community’s future, hence the great importance and priority that Imani attaches to it.

As Abraham Lincoln once observed, that “Most people are about as happy as they make up their neighbors to be and real contentment and joy could come out of making up our minds to help others” we, in the same spirit, invite you to help us bring help where it is very much needed.

It is our sincere hope that you will support our cause in any way possible. With your help, many lives will be touched, far beyond your imagination.
