Dear Family and Friends,
On June 3, 2012, I will be running my third full marathon, the San Diego Rock 'n' Roll. This time, I wanted to run for a cause.
After a considerable amount of research and soul searching, I have decided to run for the Nepal Youth Foundation. I was immediately captivated by the story of how it all began, as well as the philosophy, transparency and effectiveness of this organization.
NYF has earned the highest CharityNavigator rating (4 Stars) every year for the last five years. A full 81% of donations to NYF go straight to the cause (and not to administrative expenses, etc.). NYF has several meticulously thought-out and successful programs that provide freedom, health, shelter and education for the most impoverished children all over Nepal.
Consider the following:
- $75 can pay the school expenses of a child living in a Nepali village for a whole year
- $100 rescues a little girl from bonded servitude, returns her to her family, and gives the family a piglet or goat (a surprisingly effective way of ensuring self-reliance for impoverished families)
- $340 covers the cost of restoring the health of a severely malnourished child and educating the mother in proper nutrition.
- $750 puts a bright young adult in college for a year.
Please join me in making some real change in the lives of these Nepali children. Just hit that big orange "DONATE" button on the top right side of this page. And hey, you might even win one of the many goodies that the hosting web site (CrowdRise) provides for donors.
Any amount helps: $10, $20, it all adds up, so please give what you can.
Finally (as I am reminded every time I log into this fun web site):
If you don't give back, no one will like you :)
