BENEFITING: National Multiple Sclerosis Society
EVENT DATE: Nov 02, 2014
As I train for the New York City Marathon in November I would like to try to raise money for a cause that is very important to my family, Multiple Sclerosis (MS) research. My grandmother, who passed away in August 2011, struggled with MS for over 40 years. It took away so much of her physical abilities, but somehow she was the most positive person I have ever known. My grandmother, or "Honey" as my cousins and I called her, is one of the greatest sources of motivation in my life and I often turn to the thought of her on long runs as I remember her incredible will power and perseverance. Despite being 80+ years old and not having many motor skills left, Honey would still force herself to walk as much as possible. Some days this might only mean a 10 foot walk from her living room to the kitchen, but she always forced herself to do it. She could have easily stopped trying to walk altogether because of the enormous physical strain that walking just a few feet caused, but she never did. She absolutely refused to let the disease win and I hope I can channel some of her inner strength as I try to set a PR at the most popular marathon in the world on November 2nd. I would greatly appreciate any size donation to my fundraiser to help raise money for MS research, so doctors can continue to work to find a cure for this disease.
