On Sunday, April 26th Rand and I will once again be participating in the Our House Run for Hope, this time in memory of our very dear friend, Len Talan.
Len and I had been friends for 50 years and his death in February from esophageal cancer was heartbreaking. Artist, movie director, musician, prankster, marketer, photoshop king, and sweetheart -- Len was brilliantly talented, beloved and will be so greatly missed.
Most of you know that I have been on the Board of Our House for 17 years. Its mission, to provide the community with grief support services, education, resources and hope, is one that is very dear to me. I was only 4 years old when my mother Gertrude died in 1956, and at that time there were no grief support services available to my dad, my sister and me.
My involvement with Our House runs deep, as over the years I have served as an in-house group leader, a school group leader and a Camp Erin volunteer (Camp Erin provides a needed respite for youngsters who have experienced the death of someone close to them). My commitment has been a continuing tribute to my mom, Gertie, and a way to ensure that, today, no one has to go through grief alone.
With love and appreciation,
Your donation to the Run For Hope is 100% tax deductible and enables initiatives such as expanding children’s grief support groups into Los Angeles Unified School District campuses and enriching the experience of the young campers at the two Camp Erin sessions this coming summer.
