BENEFITING: Innocence Project
ORGANIZER: Innocence Project
EVENT DATE: Nov 04, 2012
What will you be doing on November 4, 2012?
I’ll be running in the New York City Marathon as part of my continuing efforts to help raise money for The Innocence Project. I am honored to have been selected to run on behalf of this extraordinary organization that exists to exonerate prisoners who are in jail for crimes they did not commit. I’m hoping you will help sponsor me.
I'm looking forward to the 26.2 mile run, and have been training consistently. I'm looking forward to beating my time from my last marathon, and to raising $8000 to fund DNA tests that can free the wrongfully imprisoned. I'm counting on the support of generous individuals like you, who are willing to donate to this important cause.
Matthew and I believe in this cause so strongly that we will match every donation to my marathon training campaign 2-to-1.
The Innocence project is an organization which exists to exonerate prisoners who are in prison for crimes they did not commit. Not getting them because of a technicality but because that are actually innocent. They do this by using DNA to prove that the prisoner did not commit the crime. To date 290 people have been exonerated -- many of whom were wrongfully imprisoned for over 15 years, some for over 25 or 30 years.
The issues of actual innocence span every party line and belief system.
For every person who is in jail for a crime they did not commit, the person who actually committed the crime goes free and is easily able to commit other crimes. All this while an innocent person is in jail for years or even life and can be executed for a crime they did not commit.
