BENEFITING: IAN SOMERHALDER FOUNDATION
EVENT DATE: Oct 19, 2014
Ten years ago, just one week before my 30th birthday, I ran my first full marathon and raised over $1300 for charity by doing so. That year, after fighting multiple illnesses due to poor training knowledge, I finished in a respectable 5:02:06. This year I'll run that very same race 12 days before I turn 40. My "before 40" bucket list includes finishing the full marathon in under 4 hours. What better way to bring in 40? 10 years older and over an hour faster, 40 really is the new 30! Please help me celebrate this 10 year anniversary by helping me beat my previous fund raising total. This year I'm hopeful to raise $1500 for Ian Somerhalder Foundation.
Why IS Foundation? Well, other than being a closet Vampire Diaries fan and a dissapointed member of the "Ian as Christian Grey" camp (who the heck is Jamie Dornan anyway?), I have a tremendous amout of respect for celebrities who use their fame to create a positive role model for our youth. Ian takes it well beyond a name and a pretty face by getting out there and doing something, testifying before congress, relentlessly using social media to spread awareness, showing up at disaster sites, leading youth groups, and more. I recently started volunteering time to this organization (I'm currently assistant manager of the youth division) and I can't imagine a more up beat and welcoming group of action oriented souls.
