Memorial donation to the Bertolon Center for Grief and Healing at Care Dimensions, Danvers MA(Formly known as Hospice of the North Shore and Greater Boston)
It has been almost 2 years since my dear friend Tanny Martin lost her son, James Martin Alexander, to Colon Cancer. Identified in the 4th stage, James courageously fought an uphill battle with his disease but it was quickly determined that the limited treatment available was not working. James and his family were blessed by the wonderful care of his hospice team from Hospice of the North Shore in Danvers, MA (now known as Care Dimensions) who worked diligently to manage James symptoms and provide him comfort. During his final days, James was transferred to their Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers James’ admission to the hospice house allowed him to find a place of peace while he and his family received state of the art, compassionate care.
James had just turned 28 when he died just 84 days after his diagnosis. He lived in Rockport, MA with his mom and had worked evenings and nights at two different convenience stores in the area for years. He was a sweet and striking guy, 6'4", shaved bald but with a ready smile and conversation for everyone. He loved to play music in the store and discuss his wide-ranging tastes and new discoveries. He had a large and loving circle of friends who miss him and who have named two babies after him since he died. His friends at Gloucester Taxi have joined his mom by displaying "I miss James" stickers on their fleet of cabs.
Since James died, his mom Tanny has been supported in her grieving process by comforting counseling through Care Dimensions at their Bertolon Center for Grief and Healing. The Center provides wide ranging grief and bereavement support throughout the North Shore of Boston Area including many support groups, individual counseling and Camp Stepping Stones, an annual event held especially for children in bereavement.
