The Story: Before my freshman year of college I didn’t know anything about Lyme Disease. I had heard of it before but it had never been of any concern to me. But that all changed when I met Leah. She lived down the hall from me in the dorms and was in a couple of my classes. We got to know each other very well and ended up dating :-).
Well I learned that she had Lyme Disease and since then I have done a lot of research into what Lyme Disease is and what it does. After seeing how it has affected her and seeing how it has affected her family I felt like I needed to do something to help. I am a runner and I figured running a half-marathon in benefit of Lyme Disease would be the best way I could do it. So I started this fundraising page with www.Crowdrise.com (awesome website) to help me raise $1000 for Lyme Disease Research.
Commonly misdiagnosed, Lyme Disease is caused by a type of bacterium that is transmitted by ticks. It is a rapidly growing disease that newly infects close to 2,200 people per month according to www.lymefacts.com. If left untreated, an infected person could suffer from fatigue, arthritis, neurological, and cardiac disorders for years after they have been bitten. More information on prevention, transmission, and symptoms is available at www.lymediseaseasscoiation.org. There is a lot of potential for research on Lyme Disease and I hope to significantly contribute to that.
All the money I raise from this Half-marathon will be directly donated to the Lyme Disease Association (LDA) a 501(c)3 all volunteer organization and will go to benefit their partnership with Columbia University dealing with Lyme Research. Any money is incredibly appreciated not only by me and Leah but by everyone who suffers from Lyme Disease.
