Shalees Johnson's Fundraiser:

Run for Relief

Hey everyone! As you already know, NYC and many of the surrounding areas were badly affected by tropical storm Sandy. What many of you probably did not know is that the NYC Marathon is this coming weekend! In spite of the storm damage, the Mayor of NYC has decided that the marathon is going to happen. I have been at odds with his decision due to the enormous strain the race and associated events will put on the local public services, first responders, and many other resources that are under an onslaught of pressure to get NYC back to normal. Not to mention, some utility services are still out and the subway system is not fully operational. Just getting to the start line is going to be an enormous task. Quite the dilemma! At one point, I was even ready to defer my race entry until next year. Then, I realized that this race will not just be any 'race' but a chance for many thousands of people to show their support for NYC. I know many will just show up and run but I wanted to do something more... something to support the people that are in need of assistance. I've picked a local NYC organization that is helping right now. That organization is 'New York Cares' and they have volunteers on the ground fulfilling many vital needs. Joel and I also plan on spending much of our time in New York volunteering for relief efforts. If you are able to help in any way please click on the green 'donate' button below. Donating through this website is simple, fast and secure. It is also the most efficient way to support my fundraising efforts. Many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too!
*New York Cares is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization
