BENEFITING: BIOMEDICAL RESEARCH INSTITUTE OF NEW JERSEY INC
EVENT DATE: Sep 04, 2015
Hello! My name is Courtney Stevens and I am one of the undergraduate students that participated in BRInj’s 2015 Summer Undergraduate Research Program. I’m a rising junior at Rutgers University and I am majoring in Animal Biotechnology. I have hopes of becoming a research scientist in the future and do research involving transgenic animal models in biomedical research.
During this program, I along with nine other students, studied Necrotizing Enterocolitis (NEC) for eight weeks. Because I am interested in research, I was ecstatic to discover that I would be able to learn about the scientific process with the guidance of well regarded scientists. With my group, we were able to study the effect of breast milk on an in vitro model of NEC that another group had created. This program just made me fall even more in love with science and the applications of research.
To show my support for research and the benefits it has, I will be running during the month of August and partially into September. The team’s goal is to run 500 total miles in five weeks and to raise $5,000. The money will go towards supplies and future educational programs at BRInj. My goal is to run 20 miles and to raise $500. You could either sponsor me for a certain dollar amount per every mile I run (the amount is up to you!) or you could give a flat donation.
Please join me in my Run for Research! Any contribution will make a difference and it will be greatly appreciated! Thank you for supporting such an incredible cause!
