BENEFITING: BIOMEDICAL RESEARCH INSTITUTE OF NEW JERSEY INC
EVENT DATE: Sep 04, 2015
Hi! My name is Gabby Stravach and I am one of the 2015 BRInj summer undergraduate research students. I am a rising sophomore at Emory University and I am majoring in Neuroscience and Behavioral Biology.
This summer at BRInj, I worked on a project with nine other undergraduates studying Necrotizing Enterocolitis (NEC), an intestinal disease that affects mostly premature babies. My group worked with natural products in search of treatments for our damaged cells. Although my previous lab experience was limited, I did not feel at a disadvantage at all because the other undergraduates and scientists at BRInj were very patient and willing to help. I feel privileged to have been able to work with such exceptional scientists and students and I want other undergraduates to have the same opportunity that I had. Even though our undergraduate program was divided into three groups, we were all working towards one goal. Each group held a different piece of the puzzle and with a little more help and support, BRInj will be on its way to completing the puzzle.
To show my commitment for research, I’ll be running during the whole month of August. As a team we are committed to run 500 miles in 5 weeks to raise $5,000 to help support BRInj’s fundraiser “Run for Research”. My personal goal is to run 200 miles and raise $500. Either a flat donation or a sponsorship per mile would be greatly appreciated. Any and all support will help!
Please join me and support research! All contributions will go towards our Run for Research and will help BRInj continue to investigate neonatal and neurological diseases as well as give future high school and undergraduate students the opportunity to work in a lab. Together we can make a difference. Thank you for all of your support!
