Before Sydney was born, we knew she was special, but over the last 13 years, she has shown us just how extraordinary she is. Sydney was born with chromosome 18q deletion syndrome, a genetic condition caused by a deletion of genetic material within one of the two copies of chromosome 18. Though 18q- affects everyone differently, common characteristics include developmental delays and medical concerns ranging from hearing loss to clubfoot.
Syd has endured more than any child should ever need to, but she has shown her resiliency by smiling her way through each surgery, each injection, and each trip to the doctor.
We (Allison, Steven, Arden, Michael, Marissa and Max) are running the Philly Half to support Sydney and the Chromosome 18 Registry and Research Society. Most of us have never run a race in our lives, so 13.1 miles is probably going to suck. Our feet and knees already hurt. We’re thirsty. We’re tired. And it’s hot. Really, really hot. But in the words of the wonderful Allison Alper, “I just keep remembering all Syd has gone through in 13 years- I can run 13 miles.”
So please, give whatever you can to support Syd and the Chromosome 18 Registry and Research Society as we try to reach our goal of $10,000. Thank you for your support!!!
