Run for the Fallen began in 2008 when a team of dedicated runners ran from Fort Irwin, California to Arlington National Cemetery. Their goal: to run one mile for every fallen soldier lost in Operation Iraqi Freedom. Their hope was that people in every state would keep their mission going, by organizing an annual run/walk event. RFTF Idaho held their first event in 2011, a year after attending a 2010 event in Maine, the birthplace of our own fallen hero, Sgt Joshua John Kirk. It was an amazing experience, with over 100 people coming from all over the state to run and walk with us. In 2012, we held two events: one in Southern Idaho in May and one in North Idaho in August. Nearly 200 people ran and walked over 800 miles in honor and remembrance of Idaho's fallen soldiers who gave their lives in service to our country since 9/11. Once again, we are holding two events in 2013. The first is Memorial Day weekend, hosted by Pocatello's Field of Heroes and the second on August 3rd, in Post Falls, hosted by Idaho's Patriot Guard Riders and the Gathering of the Guard. This is a free event that is open to everyone. Memory markers with pictures and biographies of the fallen, poems and other and family remembrances will line the Post Falls High School Track. This is an event to celebrate the lives of our fallen heroes, and show that no matter how many years pass, they will never be forgotten.
