On November 6th I will run through all 5-boroughs of NYC as I complete the 26.2 miles that make up the 2011 ING NYC Marathon. This will be my first marathon, and over the past 14 weeks I have logged over 425 miles in preparation. After finishing my last long run of 20 miles all I have left to do is rest up (mentally & physically) for the big day!
ALSO,I have a crazy cat named Syke. I have had Syke for 6 years now, ever since he was just 8 weeks old when I brought him home from the ASPCA in Austin, Texas. He's been with me throughout it all, and even as I'm writing this he is curled up in my lap probably wondering when I will stop typing so that I can give him my full attention.
What do these two things have in common you might ask? Well, besides the fact that when I'm not talking about running, I'm talking about Syke, and vice versa, I've decided to run the marathon for the kitties (and puppies) of ASPCA! Please join me in helping such a great organization so that more people can find and bring home their own special pets!
My goal is to raise $2,620... that's $100 for each mile that I will run on November 6th!!!
The ASPCA is a non-profit organization that helps animals of all breeds, shapes, sizes, and situations. Please remember to use corporate matching if possible, and don't forget that your donation is fully tax deductible!!
To give you an idea of how you can help:
$20 feeds an abandoned dog or cat for 3 weeks
$35 vaccinates 10 homeless cats and dogs
$50 provides a medical exam for both a puppy and a kitten
$100 funds collars and leashes for 16 dogs and cats rescued by ASPCA's Law Enforcement Department
$250 funds behavior assessments for 10 rescued dogs to be placed for adoption or rehabilitation
$350 funds the hoof care and rehabilitation for 2 rescue horses
$500 provides heartworm treatment for a rescue dog
$1,000 provides forensic evidence collection supplies for up to 250 animals impacted by animal cruelty
Thanks for the support (and I would love for you to leave me a note!) I hope to see you all out along the course on November 6th, I'll be thinking of you & the kitties and puppies that we've helped out along the way!
