BENEFITING: University of Mississippi Medical Center
EVENT DATE: Feb 13, 2010
In honor of that milestone, and in honor of my grandfather, Garth Cogswell, I will be running this race to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer's disease research. My run will benefit the MIND Center, an Alzheimer's research center at the University of Mississippi Medical Center.
Grampa doesn't know who I am. When I visit, I'm the "handsome young man who stopped in this morning" (his words). It's heartbreaking, but it's only a glimpse of the devastating consequences of this dreaded disease.
The MIND Center is seeking answers. An initiative at UMMC aimed at elucidating the causes and treatments for Alzheimer's disease and related dementias through cutting-edge research, the MIND Center is headed by Dr. Tom Mosley, one of the world's leading experts on brain aging. The MIND Center was recently tapped to lead one of the largest and most comprehensive studies ever conducted into risk factors for dementia and cognitive decline. My goal is to raise $100 per mile or $2,620. I hope you'll join me in the battle against Alzheimer's. (In the interest of full disclosure, I am the MIND Center's development director.)
