BENEFITING: WAVES OF IMPACT
EVENT DATE: Dec 07, 2014
Hi, my name is Monica and I am the fundraising director for Waves of Impact.
My daughter, Samantha, has been surfing with Waves of Impact since 2011. Sam is 13 years old and was born with multiple disabilities as a result of a chromosome 18q deletion. Sam is Deaf, nonverbal and has autism and severe intellectual and developmental delays. Still, Sam is a sweet, fearless, funny, little girl who loves being in the ocean and can definitely ride a wave! No one would know this by just looking at her because there is often a preconceived idea about what children like Sam can and cannot do. After a day at surf camp, this notion is changed forever.
On December 7, 2014, I will be pushing Sam in her chariot along with a team of dedicated Waves of Impact runners and supporters in the 1/2 Marathon at the Rock 'n' Roll San Antonio® Marathon and 1/2 Marathon to help raise money for more surf camps and equipment. As Team Captain, I created this fundraising page to help our team of runners rally your support.
Waves of Impact is a 501 (c)3 nonprofit organization that was formed to introduce individuals facing exceptional challenges in their lives to the thrill of being in the ocean and riding waves. They seek to spread this experience by providing free surf camps for children with special challenges and surf clinics for our veterans in the military who were injured while serving our country.
